Tidbits

Of all the material in this website, this is going to be the one I’m going to enjoy contributing to the most. These tidbits have been prompted by some of my clients, some of the students from my correspondence course in horary astrology, other astrologers, and friends. Here I don’t have to stick to a particular subject of astrology, I can write on whatever interests me at that moment, respond to an astrologer, a student with a more complete detailed answer, or respond to inspiration almost instantly. A tidbit may begin in this section of this website and later maybe expanded and placed in another area of this website.

Tidbits

  • Dual Rulerships

    Jan 13, 2010

When I was 24 and I was well on my way to becoming an astrologer, well…at least well on my way to becoming a serious student of astrology. I had a friend name Russell Bloodgood.

  • Fads

    Jan 13, 2010

Astrology is no different from anything else in life. It goes through fads; there are always parts of astrology that come into vogue and parts of astrology that lose favor.

  • The Sextile

    Jan 13, 2010

I can’t remember which country, but I had a student in one of the South American countries, that insisted that the sextile is a minor aspect. He was wrong.

  • The Major Aspects

    Jan 13, 2010

The major aspects two or more planets can have are the conjunction, together, the sextile, 60 degrees apart, the square, 90 degrees apart, the trine, 120 degrees apart, the opposition, 180 degrees apart, the parallel of declination, in the same degree and the same direction, north or south of declination and the contra-parallel of declination, the same degree but opposite in direction of declination.

  • “Quirks” In Astrology

    Jan 13, 2010

There are rules or things in astrology that I have thought of as quirks but have come to accept; one is Mercury exalted in its own sign, Virgo. Another is the 4th House ruling the father and the 10th House ruling the mother.

  • Ivy Martha Marie Goldstein-Jacobson

    Jan 13, 2010

That was Mrs. Jacobson’s whole name. She used the one “M” in Ivy M. Goldstein-Jacobson to represent both Martha and Marie. She was born in Brisbane, Australia, April 13, 1893 at 12:10:43 pm Guam Standard Time. She died May 5, 1990 in Arcadia, California. She lived 97 years. I knew her for her last twenty.

  • The Cadent Houses

    Jan 13, 2010

The Cadent Houses are the 3rd House, 6th House, 9th House and 12th House. In a natal chart these houses have to do with the mind. The 3rd House rules the basic mind, your basic education you need to survive, and your education through high school.

  • Protection From The Malefics

    Jan 13, 2010

Mars and Saturn are the lesser and greater malefics. They rule two angular houses and two succeedent houses. Those two angular houses naturally rule you and your fate. With Mars exalted in Capricorn and the 10th House and Saturn in its fall in Aries and the 1st House you can assume that our fate exalts us as natives of this life while we as natives of this lifetime damn our fate.

  • Planets Dignified Or Exalted

    Jan 13, 2010

Any planet in its own sign is dignified. This is probably the most comfortable place for a planet. This is a well-qualified planet, especially in the areas the planet naturally rules and more so in the areas the sign naturally rules. Whether the planet is a benefic or a malefic, any planet in its dignity tends to be benefic in nature. In a natal or horary chart, if that planet represents a skill, the skill measures up and the skill is a quality skill.

  • Planets In Their Fall Or Detriment

    Jan 13, 2010

Planets in their fall or detriment have planetary standing, but that standing is not a favorable standing. Those planets can never be considered peregrine, wandering aimlessly.

  • Peregrine Planets

    Jan 13, 2010

A planet peregrine is wandering aimlessly. If that planet represents a person, that person has no direction; he doesn’t know what to do and he may be easily taken advantage of.

  • The Moon in Horary Astrology

    Jan 13, 2010

If the Moon will still make a parallel or contra-parallel before she leaves the sign she occupies, the Moon is not void of course.

  • Your Spouses

    Jan 13, 2010

Whether you’re looking at a horary chart or natal chart, the 7th house rules any current spouse. In horary astrology, the 7th House also rules anyone asked about to possibly become a spouse, even if the querent still has a spouse.

  • Mercury’s Motion

    Jan 13, 2010

If you could find out what Mercury’s motion was when you made the best decisions in your life, you’d more than likely find that Mercury was direct and moving very fast.

  • The 7th House

    Jan 13, 2010

I met Ivy M. Goldstein-Jacobson when I was in my early 20’s. I loved and respected her very much, but for the first 6 years of our relationship I had no idea of her position in the astrological community; I simply thought of her as a nice old lady who was an astrologer.

  • When Mutual Receptions Don’t Work

    Jan 13, 2010

There are different ways that planets can be in mutual reception. The only time mutual receptions work perfectly is when two direct planets are in each other’s signs in angular houses. This kind of mutual reception tends to be very clear cut and dry.

  • Retrograde Planets

    Jan 13, 2010

You never get the full benefit of a planet when that planet is retrograde. Retrograde planets hold back some of their nature. In everyday life this phenomenon is seldom noticed, unless your progressions indicate it.

  • Dieting

    Jan 13, 2010

Don’t swim against the current when dieting. Begin your diet on the Full Moon.

  • Advice For The Non-Astrologer, Just Interested In Astrology

    Jan 13, 2010

Even if you’re not interested in astrology, most of us know what sign we are; but what that means is that the Sun was in that sign when you were born.
